Read both Sean Cubitt's 'LED Technology and the Shaping of Culture' and Andreas Broeckmann's 'Intimate Publics: Memory, Performance, and Spectacle in Urban Environments' then discuss how both articles relate back to the course you are doing/job/life.
ANSWERS:
1. Sean Cubitt's 'LED Technology and the Shaping of Culture' can be divided into two parts. The first part of the essay explains what is LED and its history. As for the second part, the article touches of the impact of LED to the society. It says that the emergence of LED manifests the idea of standardization where things are being made or developed similarly to one another.
The idea of standardization has its pros and cons. Putting it in the realm of digital media, it might be a good thing. For instance, the language that the computer systems uses is standardized so that it would enable them to be connected without any problems.
However, standardization also creates monopolization. Producing too many of the same things will result to monopolization.
2. Andreas Broeckmann's 'Intimate Publics: Memory, Performance, and Spectacle in Urban Environments' talks about how the world we live in today is being surrounded by 'Screen'. It mentions that 'Urban Screen' is not a particular thing but a concept instead. Almost anything around us has the capability to be made as a screen.
The same thing can be said about technology and digital media. We are being surrounded by them from the moment we wake up to the time we sleep. Mobile phones, laptops, television, radio, cameras to name a few, are some of the technology around us. We can either acknowledge them or ignore them completely.
HOW TO BE AN EXPLORER OF THE WORLD: Task 1
I am currently sitting alone in my room. There's not much going on at the moment other that the occasional sound of the seagulls. However, i managed do document some sound that i think quite interesting.
1. Heard my roommate Kupatsa talking on her phone. She's in her room about 10 meters away from my room
2. Another roommate of mine, Paris is cooking in the kitchen. I can hear him frying something. Distance about 5 meters away.
3. Heard some seagulls. Probably on top of the roof.
